What to Wear for Family Photos | Melissa Joy Photography
For me personally, one of the most challenging parts of taking photos of my own family is choosing our outfits. Spending time finding an outfit for each of us, purchasing new items and possibly needing to return things to find a better option or size, and making sure that everything coordinates seamlessly can be a time-consuming and frustrating process. I am sure that I am not alone in this experience!
Here’s the good news. I am here to help you! I am HAPPY to help you because I know the struggles I’ve gone through in the past to coordinate my own family’s clothing. Not only will I happily help you brainstorm and coordinate your outfits, but I also have some dresses and children’s clothing in my client wardrobe. Many of my clients find borrowing a dress to be freeing since they don’t have to worry about buying new clothing that they’ll wear just this once.
I always recommend starting with mom’s dress first and going from there. With my style of photography, white, cream, subtle floral patterns, and light colored, flowy dresses look fantastic. They help achieve that dreamy, bright look that my clients know and love me for.
Obviously if you have a different color that you really want to wear, these are your photos that you’ll have forever so I want you to wear what you love. Just know that if you go that route, your photos may look different from my standard dreamy look, because what you wear to our session is a huge factor in achieving that look. The whites and lights help draw attention to the dreaminess and the connection in your family.
